Pencils, Paper, Scissors Collective Colouring Book

Myself, Kerri-Ann Hulme and Madi formed a collective in 2011 called Pencils, Paper, Scissors. We focused our first project on the theme of the circus and as a result created a children's colouring book.

This is the finished printed article which is now available in my etsy shop!

The Honey Bee Castle

Author: Asli Özkirim
Illustrator: Mehmet Öġüş
Book Layout: Joanne Hawker
Publisher: International Bee Research Association (IBRA)

This fabulous book of 148 pages brings together the reality of life in the hive with the magic that the bees create as they go about their daily business.

Beautifully illustrated the book is divided into nine stories, all based upon the colourful bee characters in their hive called ‘The honey bee castle’.

We learn how the bees go about their daily lives, share
pollen with the flowers and protect their castle and honey from the bears.

There is also a moral tale that runs through the book which encourages us to appreciate the need to work together, and to share and understand the world around us.

Visit the IBRA bookshop to purchase a copy.

Oh GOSH Project - Fundraising Charity Book

I was lucky enough to take part in the wonderful Oh GOSH Project to help raise money for the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. We were given the theme of humans interacting with animals and so I based mine around a woodland tea party.

Images 2 and 3 © to Jason Smith
The Oh GOSH Project is a collaboration of 26 different super talented artists each producing an illustration for a colouring book and a poster.

The Project is all in aid of raising money for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. Every penny spent on the books will be donated.

The book contains illustrations from 25 of the artists. There is also a specially designed poster of only 50, designed by the talented - Mattellero - Matt Ellero.

Honey Recipes From A Welsh Kitchen

I was recently asked by the International Bee Research Association (IBRA) to design and create their new recipe book focused around cooking with honey and this is the finished result!

'Inspired by the versatility and potential of honey as a cooking ingredient, Jane has produced over 100 delicious recipes in this attractive book. With step by step instructions and colour photographs throughout, cooking with honey is easy!'

'For convenience the recipes are grouped into the following chapters:
Meat / Fish / Vegetarian and Salads / Desserts / Cakes / Biscuits / Christmas. The dishes range from spicy beef medallions to mouth watering Glamorgan sausages, and from traditional Welsh cakes to fabulous honey walnut biscuits.'

'This book is aimed at those who want to use one of the oldest ingredients in the world! A product that is so versatile it should not be ignored in the kitchen! It is a book for expert and novice alike with a page of ‘Useful tips for cooking with honey’ to help you on your way.'

Ganbare Nippon

がんばれ　日本
Don't Give Up Japan!

I created this image for the Illustration Rally blog shortly after the Japan Tsunami. The theme was 'Don't Give Up Japan' and they wanted images of hope unity and love.

The idea was to showcase work that demonstrated the strength of the Illustration Rally community and give some hope to the people to Japan. To show them that people out there are thinking about them.

For my illustration I used the red circle from the Japanese flag and put it in the sky next to the sun (as Japan is know as 'the land of the rising sun'). This red sun is then giving its strength to the clouds which is then raining down love onto the country.

Suburb Property

The basic concept for all designs presented here relate to the well known phrase ‘home is where the heart is’.

The designs demonstrate houses merging together which represents the transition from one home to the next with a heart in the centre to relate back to the well known phrase above.

The chosen colours are bright, warm, welcoming and friendly. The simple rounded typeface relates back to the curves of the design and gives off a friendly feeling.

The identities have a fresh modern feel but still appears approachable and professional as opposed to corporate and cold.

Suburb property will be covering much of the Cornwall area therefore the name underneath the logo had to be easily changeable. Suburb property then chose to go with the third design and asked me to show them how I would envision their web site to look like by using a supplied to template.
